Artist Statement: The World is Awaken
The world is awaken. For too long, we have looked at the world through the lens of cold geometry—lines on a map, political borders, and lifeless terrain. I AM WIA exists to shatter that illusion. Everything in this world has a spirit, and the land itself is a living, breathing entity with a face, a voice, and a sovereign identity.
My work is a process of Anthropomorphic Cartography: the discovery of the spirits hidden within our geography. These are not mere illustrations; they are manifestations. Every character I bring to light is birthed from the actual, literal cartographic outlines of the land. I do not alter the borders to fit a vision; I listen to the borders until the vision reveals itself.
The King of Kings is not just an image of Brooklyn; it is the regal spirit that has always existed within the silhouette of Kings County as a king.
The Motherland is the ancient, watchful soul of Africa emerging directly from its own coastlines as a woman.
The Watcher is the Dog found within the literal map of New York.
When you engage with this art, you are witnessing the "I AM" of the earth. We do not just live on the land; we are a part of its awakening. To wear this spirit is to declare your own existence in unity with the soil that raised you.
